About Us

First Church of God Mechanicsburg (MFCOG)

Christ our focus, Community our concern

Who we are, what we acknowledge and what we value.

We are a church that exists to help people find their real purpose in life and to live that purpose out in practical ways.

We are a group of individuals who love God and other people. We desire to grow closer to God in our relationship with Him.

At the same time we desire to see others enter into a relationship with God, through faith in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We value, respect and treasure other people as individuals.  We acknowledge that as individuals we all come with our own set of issues in life, doubts, struggles, failures as well as joys, triumphs and learned experiences. We rejoice and celebrate together when those things are all brought to God as individuals.

We acknowledge, as individuals, that we are not the Holy Spirit of God, it is not our job to convince or convict anyone of their sinfulness. Our job is to present the Story of God’s love for all of us and to be representatives of the life of freedom that is a result of that love. We believe that God’s word, the Bible, is clear in what God calls sin; we always endeavor to agree with God. We call sin for what it is, the sign of an incomplete or broken relationship with God.

We value our relationships with each other. It is important to us that we remain in relationship with God, and one another, for it is these relationships that foster our growth as individuals in a corporate setting. It is only in safe and secure relationships that true growth can occur, so we endeavor to be open and honest with God and with each other. This growth can be measured and evaluated by the evidence of a person’s life growing more and more in love with God and with those people around him. It is our expectation and joy to see growth in each individual life, no matter how long it takes.

We acknowledge that sometimes life gets in the way of us seeing what God is doing in our lives and it is imperative that we regularly stay in fellowship with one another to foster and encourage one another in this growth. Therefore we value honesty, integrity and transparency in our own lives and the lives of those around us.
